Winter Woolfest!

Winter Woolfest happens just in my backyard. Since our LYS closed, it feels like I live in a little bit of a yarn desert. So when this event happens every year in January, it is great to be reminded of all the wonderful fiber people in the area.

It is held in lovely downtown Wamego, KS inside the Columbian Theatre. Every year they have free mini-session classes (11 different classes listed for 2020) and a great group of vendors (28 listed for 2020).

The town of Wamego has done a great job preserving their downtown and businesses by embracing the theme of the Wizard of Oz movie. I actually walked on the Yellow Brick Road and found 2 of the many Totos sprinkled around town between parking and Woolfest.

It’s a great local festival with lots of vendors and crafters and classes and fiber people. I mean to go every year to support local and for the dead of winter pick-me-up that I always need. But between busy boy schedules, a husband who travels for work every January and my general reluctance to leave the house by this point in the winter, I’ve only made it sporadically. This year one of the members of my Knitting Group reserved a room for us at a nearby restaurant and I was so excited to go!

We met at the Friendship House (famous for their bierocks and cinnamon rolls). Then it was easy walk back and forth from the Friendship House and Woolfest. I’m so glad I went! It was really great going with knitting friends since we were able to show each other our finds, walk through the vendors together and share a meal. If you’re ever in the area, you should definitely check it out!
