Personal: Snow Ice Cream

Since the boys were super little, we’ve had a family tradition of making Snow Ice Cream when we get a big enough snow.

There has to be enough snow on surfaces to easily scoop up 5-10 cups of pristine fluffy snow (white…no yellow or other color at all…this bears repeating to small people over and over again if they are the ones collecting the snow for you). Some years we do not get enough snow, so it makes the tradition extra special.

So far in the 2019-2020 Winter, we’ve had one snow big enough to make Snow Ice Cream. Here is our recipe:

SNOW ICE CREAM RECIPE

INGREDIENTS:

  • 1 cup half and half (I generally use canned evaporated milk instead.)
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • dash of salt
  • 5-10 cups pristine snow

INSTRUCTIONS:

  1. Measure the half and half (or evaporated milk) and carefully place in the freezer to chill thoroughly.
  2. Once the half and half is completely chilled (but not frozen), collect the snow.
  3. Quickly combine all the ingredients (gently folding keeps the mixture from melting quite as fast as vigorous stirring).
  4. Split into bowls and eat right away before it melts!

Tasty, quick, easy, very few ingredients and a fun family tradition! I hope you enjoy it as much as we do.
