Knitting: January 2022

Here is a look at what I’m working on these days.

FINISHED

Pictured from top to bottom and left to right: Sugar Plum Cowl, Elodia Hat, Mini Hat Garland, Hot Chocolate Hats.

The Sugar Plum Cowl (Ravelry link) is now live! The Sugar Plum Cowl features basic decreases and yarn overs to evoke the gentle sweep and shape of sugar plums or the sugar plum fairy costumes in The Nutcracker.

I finished two projects for the 2021 Gift-A-Long! I almost never take the time to knit other designer’s patterns. Each year I look forward to the GAL when I pick a handful of patterns by other designers. This year I had my eye on several but I’m only counting two as finished – the Elodia Hat by Sarah Jordan and Mini Hat Garland by Emily Ross (Ravelry links). If you want to get real, I didn’t actually finish-finish the Tiny Hat Garland since there are 12 hats and the garland that connects them in the pattern. I’m counting it anyway.

And more Hot Chocolate Hats (Ravelry link)! I really love this hat and need one in all the colors! I’ve been making good headway on accomplishing just that. I’ve also updated the pattern for 2022, taken some new pics and figured out how to make an Instagram Reel for it. I felt a little silly doing the reel but I had fun anyway.

ON THE NEEDLES

Pictured from top to bottom and left to right: Turquoise Trail Pullover, Long Version of the Turquoise Trail Cowl, Short Version of the Turquoise Trail Cowl, Thorin Cloak, new tee design, an actual sock on the needles, another actual sock on the needles, a large stack of submissions and another Hot Chocolate Hat.

I have THREE test knits going right now! They are all three happening in The Testing Pool on Ravelry. That means the links for each are Ravelry links. The Turquoise Trail Pullover test knit is drawing to a close at the end of the month. The Turquoise Trail Cowl and Thorin Cloak test knits both both started in early January. As always, I very much value the extra eyes and hands of test knitters on these projects!

The new tee design isn’t quite as far along as I wanted by this point. I’m about to pick it up and only knit on this tee until the sample garment is finished. Then I need to get busy on pattern edits so I can send it off for tech editing.

I don’t knit socks all that much these days. But somehow I’ve got two pairs on the needles right now. I’m not quite sure how that happened. But I do love the yarns for both (a Fiesta colorway by Knit Picks and a Halloween colorway by Tall Pine Yarn) so that could have something to do with it.

The pile of knitted pieces for submissions may not look like all that much knitting. It definitely is!!! It represents hours and hours and hours of time spent on knitting, ripping back, knitting again, ripping back again and so on. It also represents many, many hours of time spent on one page PDF submissions. For now this is all I’m allowed to show. I’m pretty proud of some of these design ideas so you’ll definitely be seeing them over the next year.

Did you notice that green was missing from all the finished colors of Hot Chocolate Hats (Ravelry link) above? I did. I’m fixing it by knitting another one in a great green that promises spring will be here in good time. I also don’t have a purple one since I gifted that one to my mom….

That seems like plenty for this month. As always, you can sign up here for my newsletter to receive new pattern updates and exclusive discounts. Please be kind to yourself and others.
