Knitting: February Projects

Here is a look at what I’ve finished over the last month and what I’m working on in February. Please note the design and test knit links throughout this post are to the Ravelry unless they say otherwise. Yarn links are to yarn companies. Etsy links are to my shop.

FINISHED

The Aria Hat pattern is now live! The Aria hat features strong cables that evoke the repetition and variation of a single melody in an aria. Written in 3 sizes – Toddler, Teen/Adult S and Adult L. The overall cables of Aria act like ribbing and each size will easily stretch to fit a relatively wide range of head circumferences. If you need to avoid Ravelry, here is the link to the Aria Hat at Tallgrass Knitting (my Etsy shop).

I finished another Ponytail Hot Chocolate Hat in blue. I may knit myself a Hot Chocolate Hat in every color of worsted weight wool in the house before this winter is over. I have finished hats in a beautiful oatmeal color full version, a blue ponytail version and a red ponytail version. Plus a purple one on the needles pictured below. (Link is to my full version pattern. The ponytail variation is offered exclusively to newsletter subscribers and you won’t find it anywhere else. You can sign up for my newsletter here.)

ON THE NEEDLES

The Beach Glass Sweater test knit is moving right along. The Beach Glass Sweater combines a center front cable panel with top-down construction and a stockinette stitch body. The sweater is a simple top-down seamless raglan with positive ease and subtle shaping for a relaxed fit. Written in 8 sizes. Cables charted and written.

The Frida test knit just started! The Frida tee is a hybrid top-down tee with flower bud cable panels that frame the top and bottom of the tee. Frida begins with a cabled round yoke that flows into simple raglan increases. Tee includes waist and hip shaping for a flattering fit. Written in 8 sizes. Cable panels charted and written. Named Frida because the flower bud cable panels evoke the flowers that the artist Frida Khalo always had around her in paintings and photographs. I really love this one and have been trying to capture a photo of me channeling my inner Frida while wearing it.

The upcoming Agave Cowl design out of Malabrigo Rios in the color Seco y Fresco sample is finished! Now I’m in the middle of pattern writing and tech edits to get this pattern ready for test knitting soon. I always love knitting in Rios.

The rights to the Ria Sweater (originally published as the Clare Pullover in Love of Knitting magazine) have reverted back to me. That means I’m free to publish it! I’m almost finished completely updating this pattern and working back and forth with my tech editor to get it just right. I’m sooooooo close to releasing this reworked and updated sweater pattern.

My Water Lilies Cowl design is also coming along. I always feel like I should earn bonus life points when my stitch marker matches my knitting! Lotus flowers and water lilies are not the same but they do have some pretty striking similarities. Stitch marker is a lotus flower charm from Tallgrass Knitting (my Etsy shop).

I cast on a new purple version of the Hot Chocolate Hat for podcast knitting. The cables on this hat make me happy both when I’m knitting them and when I’m wearing them. I feel like I can use a little added happy this winter. So I’m just going to keep knitting myself this hat in as many different colors as I want. And I’m going to keep wearing them daily on dog walks and around the house during extra cold days. At some point I might need to start adding the finished hats to the Christmas basket, but I’m not there yet. So far, I’m keeping them all for myself!

In non-knitting news, the younger teen is learning to juggle actual freaking fire, the older teen earned second chair in the All State Band on his French Horn and I’m starting to get excited about gardening this coming spring with baby indoor lettuce and lots of garden seeds.

That’s it for this month. As always, you can sign up here for my newsletter to receive new pattern updates and exclusive discounts. Please be kind to yourself and others. And take care!
