Travel: Quick Trip to Colorado

I’m not quite sure how we decided that a quick trip to Colorado just after finals and before the string of family holiday celebrations was a good idea months ago when we scheduled it. I know it was super stressful last week when we were trying to pack in the middle of all the other commitments. But I’m glad we went.

The main reason for the trip was the very first college visit for the older boy. So we packed up the car and headed out to the city of Boulder. I expected a winter wonderland with lots of snow. But large chunks of Colorado have been just as unseasonably warm as we have and Boulder had almost no snow. Plus the highs were in the 50s and 60s while we were there.

We included a little bit of some favorites for each of us. Family board games for the older boy, a yarn store for me, a brewery for the husband and a day on the slopes for the younger boy. Luckily there was plenty of snow at the higher elevations.

We also took a walk around the Pearl Street outdoor mall, found a pretty great chicken dressed up for the holidays and spent some time on the Boulder Creek trail.

The thing that I love the best about Colorado and the city of Boulder is the way they make recycling so much a part of daily life. Every single venue that we visited had sorting ready recycling right next to the trash. And the signs made sure you were aware that anything you didn’t sort into recycling or compost would end up in the landfill.
