New Release: Botanist Hat

My newest pattern the Botanist Hat is now available in my Ravelry shop. I’m offering the pattern at 33% off until July 14th – no code needed!

The Botanist Hat features simple cables that flow out of the beginning rib and continue through the decreases to the very top of the crown. Cables evoke the shoots and growth of climbing vines in a garden or forest.

The five sizes use the same number of cast on stitches and follow the same directions – the only difference is the gauge of the yarn used and the number of beginning ribbing rows completed!

From left to right: Adult L sample hat knit in Universal Yarns Uptown Worsted in the color Lime and used about 75 g or 135 yards. Adult S sample hat knit in Berroco Vintage Worsted in the color Kiwi and used about 60 g or 130 yards. Child sample hat knit in Knit Picks Swish DK in the color Green Tea Heather and used about 50 g or 125 yards. Toddler sample hat knit in Knit Picks Galileo in the color Firefly and used about 40 g or 105 yards. Baby sample hat knit in Louet Gems Fingering in the color Fern Green and used about 30 g or 110 yards.

Designer’s Tip: Test your gauge, the pattern does include recommended needle sizes but you will need to use the size of needle that gives you gauge in Pattern. If you decide to use the first few rounds of the body of the hat as your gauge swatch, after completing Rnd 14, measure your two gauge dimensions (stitch and row). They will grow slightly with blocking in most yarns, but should be approaching the desired gauge for the size you are working. If the fabric feels too dense or the cables are hard to complete with your needle, you likely need to go up a needle size. If the fabric feels too loose or the cables lack definition, you likely need to go down a needle size.

The Botanist Hat is available through Ravelry now and will be available through other venues later this year!
