New Release: Madison Bluewash Cowl

The I Like Knitting August 2019 issue is out! It’s full of beautiful projects including my Madison Bluewash Cowl!

Madison uses knits, purls and two-stitch twists in an all-over texture that you’ll love in an extra-long cowl for a draped-scarf feel. No cables or cable needle necessary to create this beautiful piece!

Although the texture looks complicated, the pattern repeat is easy to work. I really enjoyed working with the lovely Rowan Denim Revive yarn for this pattern. The sample cowl is worked in the color 211 Bluewash on size 5 needles for this project exactly as indicated on the ball band. I love the sustainability of repurposing and recycling old jeans like this into yarn.

Find Madison and the other great knits in the Jean On Me section of the brand new I Like Knitting August 2019 issue!

Tiny bit of yarn leftover from the sample cowl.

Designer’s Tip: To finish this cowl I did a simple spray block. First I laid the finished dry cowl out flat on a towel. Then I sprayed it on both sides with room temperature drinking water until it was thoroughly damp. Finally with a tape measure I gently tugged and pulled the cowl into the size I wanted. The dampness from the spray plus some gentle pulling was all it took for the yarn to bloom and soften.

I’m already looking forward to getting this one back from the magazine so I can wear it with blue jeans. I have a pair that it matches almost exactly.
