Knitting: September 2021

Here is a look at what I’ve finished over the last month and what I’m working on in September.

FINISHED

The Art Deco Cowl (Ravelry link) is now live! The Art Deco Cowl features three distinct panels – the Flower Bud Panel, Sloping Diamond Panel and Tulip Panel. Named Art Deco because the stitches evoke iconic art deco metal panels with natural lines of flowers, plants and geometric shapes. If you don’t use Ravelry, here is the link to the Art Deco Cowl at Tallgrass Knitting (my Etsy shop).

ON THE NEEDLES

It finally feels like we are through the move and I am able to start concentrating on knitting designs again! The entire Summer of 2021 felt like it turned into a knitting black hole. I’m super glad to have time to knit again.

The Turquoise Trail Pullover test knit is starting. The Turquoise Trail Pullover is a simple top-down seamless raglan with a scoop neck, positive ease and subtle shaping for a relaxed fit. Textured cable panels frame the neck and bottom of the body and sleeves. Named Turquoise Trail because the southwest-inspired textured cable panels evoke both cabochons of turquoise and trails. “Cabochons” are formed with Lifted-Over Knot Stitches and the “trails” are simple 2/2 cables. Written in 8 sizes. Cables charted and written. The Turquoise Trail in New Mexico is an easy day trip along national scenic byways starting from either Albuquerque or Santa Fe. The sample for this one is knit out of Valley Yarns fingering weight Charlemont (60% merino, 20% mulberry silk and 20% polyamide). I love, love, love this one and hope the move didn’t delay the timing on this one too late into the season for the test knit to fill up!

Here you see proof of actual progress on that worsted weight cloak out of Knit Picks Simply Wool with a Thor stitch marker from Tallgrass Knitting.

It is almost hat season!!!! I’m so excited about the change in weather that I cast on a new hat. And another new hat. And another, another new hat. This will be a hat design in three sizes….so casting on three hats at once isn’t quite as extravagant as it sounds. But it is definitely fun! Shown in pic: A new hat sample knit in a Malabrigo Rios in the color Frank Ochre with a Green Witchy Boot stitch marker from Tallgrass Knitting (my Etsy shop), a new hat sample knit in Malabrigo Rios in the color Lettuce with a Orange Witchy Boot stitch marker from Tallgrass Knitting and a new hat sample knit in Malabrigo Rios in the color Ravelry Red with a Yellow Sugar Skull stitch marker from Tallgrass Knitting.

And finally, two of these three skeins of lovely wool or wool blends are going to become the Turquoise Trail Cowl design samples. This will be a cowl in two sizes to give knitters options. Just as soon as I make the final decisions on which yarns, I’m ready to get this one on the needles!
