August 2021: Knitting and Tallgrass Knitting

Here is a look at what I’m working on in August. Our family picked up and moved this summer. Keeping all the moving pieces in line took over just about every waking moment of my life. I try to do an update every month or so for my knitting designs. But this summer I haven’t done one since early June. So, I’m skipping right over July. And since it has been a while without all that much knitting to show for it, I’m also including what’s new for Tallgrass Knitting (my Etsy shop).

FINISHED

The Prairie Fire Shawl (Ravelry link) pattern is now live! If you don’t use Ravelry, here is the link to the Prairie Fire Shawl at Tallgrass Knitting (my Etsy shop). The cables and lace of the Prairie Fire Shawl represent the swirls and whirls of the annual controlled prairie burns or fires on the tallgrass prairies.

The Beach Glass Cowl (Ravelry link) pattern is now live too! If you don’t use Ravelry, here is the link to the Beach Glass Cowl at Tallgrass Knitting (my Etsy shop). The Beach Glass Cowl uses simple cables to evoke the bubbling so common to antique beach glass.

The Citrus Capelet (Ravelry link) pattern just released today! If you don’t use Ravelry, here is the link to the Citrus Capelet at Tallgrass Knitting (my Etsy shop).

A short article of mine about attending fiber festivals published in the Fall 2021 Interweave Knits!

ON THE NEEDLES

There’s a whole bunch of stuff on the needles right now…..and the eagle-eyed among you might notice that not a lot of progress has been made over the summer! I’m thrilled, thrilled, thrilled to say that is very much about to change now that our move is nearly done. The Art Deco Cowl test knit is moving right along. My hands are itching to get back to work on the other projects! Pictured above from left to right and top to bottom: the Art Deco Cowl, a second Art Deco Cowl sample, a fingering weight sweater out of Valley Yarns Charlemont, an Aran weight sweater out of Brown Sheep Lamb’s Pride, a worsted weight cloak out of Knit Picks Simply Wool and a DK weight shawl out of Brown Sheep Stratosphere and a hat in 3 sizes out of Malabrigo Rios. Plus, I added a picture of Chimney Rock at Ghost Ranch in New Mexico to this collage because I’m super excited to share that a feature article I wrote about a Fiber Trails of the Upper Rio Grande trip is in final edits right now for the upcoming Interweave Knits Winter 2022 issue.

NEW AT TALLGRASS KNITTING (MY ETSY SHOP)

I added two new stitch marker sets (Iron Man charm with glass beads and gold-toned findings and Music Lover’s charm with glass beads and silver-toned findings), two new bag charm/zipper pulls (Silver Captain America Shield and Wine Barrel) and I started offering both the Tallgrass Prairie Knitting Needle Gauge and the Steampunk Knitting Needle Gauge individually. Both have been important parts of my Knitting Tool Kits since the beginning. Now I’m offering them separately too. And then I just couldn’t resist showing you 3 of my Steampunk Knitting Tool Kits. I’m having so much fun making them and really love how each one is unique.

That’s it for this month. As always, you can sign up here for my newsletter to receive new pattern updates and exclusive discounts. Please be kind to yourself and others. And take care!
