Knitting: March/April 2021

Here is a look at what I’ve finished over the last month and what I’m working on in March and April.

FINISHED

Cable lovers looking for a new top-down sweater design, this is for you! The Beach Glass Sweater (Ravelry link) pattern is now live. The Beach Glass Sweater combines a center front cable panel with top-down construction and a stockinette stitch body. The sweater is a seamless raglan with positive ease and subtle shaping for a relaxed fit. Written in 8 sizes. Cables charted and written. If you don’t use Ravelry, here is the link to the Beach Glass Sweater at Tallgrass Knitting (my Etsy shop).

The Water Lilies Cowl (Raverly link) pattern is now live too! If you don’t use Ravelry, here is the link to the Water Lilies Cowl at Tallgrass Knitting (my Etsy shop). The Water Lilies Cowl features basic decreases and yarn overs to evoke the sweep of broad and quick brushstrokes in Impressionist paintings. This cowl is long for a draped-scarf feel. Named Water Lilies Cowl because the lace evokes Monet’s 1914 painting and the flowers by the same name.

The Ria Sweater pattern also released. If you don’t use Ravelry, here is the link to Ria Sweater at Tallgrass Knitting (my Etsy shop). The Ria Sweater combines a cabled round yoke with complementary textured edging on the body and sleeves for a chic finished sweater. Ria is worked top-down with simple stockinette between top and bottom cable panels. Written in 7 sizes with shaping and positive ease for a relaxed fit. Cables written and charted.

I finished another two Hot Chocolate Hats – a purple one and a bright yellow one. I really might knit myself a Hot Chocolate Hat in every color of worsted weight wool in the house before this knitting jag is over. (Link is to my full version pattern. The ponytail variation is offered exclusively to newsletter subscribers and you won’t find it anywhere else. You can sign up for my newsletter here.)

ON THE NEEDLES

The Frida test knit is still going strong with two of the test knitters already finishing their tees! The Frida tee is a hybrid top-down tee with flower bud cable panels that frame the top and bottom of the tee. Tee includes waist and hip shaping for a flattering fit. Written in 8 sizes. Cable panels charted and written. I really love this one and have been trying to capture a photo of me channeling my inner Frida while wearing it.

The Agave Cowl is in test knitting now too.

The Beach Glass Cowl was great road trip knitting on our recent family trip to Utah. This cowl uses the same cables as the Beach Glass Pullover and I’m really loving it. The sample is such a joy to knit with the beautiful cables, Malabrigo Rios yarn and small number of stitches for a worsted weight cowl that I almost finished the whole cowl on the road.

The Prairie Fire Shawl sample is finished! The Prairie Fire Shawl cables and lace represent the swirls and whirls and wind devils seen on the Midwest prairies during the annual controlled burns each Spring. Fire on the prairie is very much a force of renewal when controlled burns clear way old growth. Once the smoke clears, green shoots start to poke up from the charred soil almost immediately. The sample shawl for pattern is knit out of a deep, beautiful red fingering weight named Cranberry from 316 Dye Studio. The test knit for this one just started too.

The sample Citrus Shawl is getting close to finished. This bright orange fingering weight yarn by Treasure Goddess Yarn was a complete joy to work with during the grey and chilly days of March. The bright color named Lusty Wench is so cheerful and it was hard to put this shawl.

And finally, I wanted to share about the Inspired by Art MAL. If you are a newsletter subscriber, you already know about it. Sherri and I are running an Inspired by Art MAL in this thread in the Geminate Podcast Ravelry group. The Inspired by Art MAL started March 30 (Van Gogh’s birthday) through end of July (Frida Kahlo’s birthday month). To participate, pick a piece of art that inspires you, pick a fiber project to go along with your art and join us in the thread. Each finished art inspired project posted in the Ravelry thread will be entered as one chance to win the final prize of a beautiful skein of Apothefaery Delightful DK (115 g, 275 yds, 100% fine superwash Merino wool) in the color Sheep Social. (This colorway is a limited edition made only for Yarn Social inspired by this Henry Spencer Moore bronze piece at The Nelson-Adkins Museum of Art.) Chatting in the thread will also enter you to win a pattern pdf of one of my art inspired patterns about halfway through the MAL and again near the end of the MAL. If you don’t use Ravelry, you can tag us on Instagram using the tag #gpartinspiredMAL to be entered to win the prizes.

That’s it for this month. As always, you can sign up here for my newsletter to receive new pattern updates and exclusive discounts. Please be kind to yourself and others. And take care!
