Tallgrass Knitting: January 2021

Here is a look at the new pieces I’ve added to Tallgrass Knitting (my Etsy shop) over the last month. I do a similar blog post every month or so for my knitting designs and thought it would be nice to do the same for Tallgrass Knitting. A while back I mentioned that there would be more fan girl items to come. I’m excited to share about some of the new bits here!

Full Stitch Marker Sets of 6 pictured above from top to bottom and left to right: Captain America, Black Widow, Agents of Shield, Thor, Avengers, Deadpool, Dissent Collar and craft paper pillow box packaging. You’ll notice I group the Dissent Collar charms with my other superhero charms. That’s because Ruth Bader Ginsburg is very much a superhero in my mind for all her tireless work for women’s rights.

It took some time for me to decide on exactly which beads and colors to group with each superhero charm. As always, I had fun playing with the different choices. I ended up deciding on bright blue and red with Captain America, red with black with Black Widow, two tones of grey for Thor and all black for Agents of Shield. Those first four were easy choices.

The last three took me a bit longer to sort out. I had a super hard time deciding which color beads to include to represent the different Avengers. I finally decided to follow an idea seen on a children’s party theme – red for Spiderman, yellow for Iron Man, blue for Captain America, green for the Hulk and black for Thor/Black Widow. That’s leaves out some important characters but felt close to right. I’ll admit to a small bit of slightly mean glee paring the Deadpool charm with red pearl glass beads. It makes me smile to think of him wearing a red pearl necklace. I’m just betting he could manage it with aplomb while also cussing me out for making it happen. The deep green glass beads with the Dissent Collar represent the jade green earrings RBG sometimes wore in photographs.

We love the Marvel Universe in our house. In fact, during the lockdown we went back and rewatched all of the Marvel movies in release order. We started with Iron Man (2008) and watched our way through all 23 movies to Spider-Man: Far From Home (2019). Squishing them into a couple of months instead of 11 years was a lot of fun! We followed the second list here for our rewatch. I highly recommend it for anyone who is looking for a good way to keep busy during what I hope are the last months of safer at home. Especially if you have teens in the house to enjoy the rewatch with you.

I also added 3 new flipflop choices to the shop. Blue Flipflop with glowing yellow glass beads, Yellow Flipflop with blue glass beads and Green Flipflop with pink glass beads. These are so great for beach knitting (or dreaming about beach knitting)!

The sets and pulls donated by Tallgrass Knitting for the 2020 Indie Design Gift-A-Long shipped out in early January. One prize to Florida, one to New Zealand, one to Chile and one to South Holland. It was a lot of fun to talk with the prize winners and to see which sets each picked. Figuring out the international shipping was a little less fun but in each case the sets are on the way!

I’m so close to adding two more great gifts for knitters that I’m super excited about. I can hardly wait to share! Fingers crossed I’ll be able to tell you more about them in next month’s post. Please be kind to yourself and others as we all move forward. Take care and happy knitting.
