Hats Round-Up

Fall knitting weather is finally almost here! Over the last year, I’ve gone back over my hats and reworked the patterns with edits and updates. The updated patterns plus fall knitting weather make it a great time to take a quick look at some of my hat designs. This post contains details about the patterns in the collage above. Pictured above from left to right and top to bottom: Jamie, Candy Cane Hat, Rosalind Hat, Maggie, Botanist Hat, Zig Zag Hat, Aurora Hat, Snow Day Hat and College Avenue Hat.

The Jamie hat uses basic twisted stitches. Fun to knit and simple to work with a polished finished look. No cable needles needed. The three sizes use the same number of cast on sts and follow the same directions – the only different is the gauge of the yarn used. Jamie originally released in January of 2016. Find Jamie on Ravelry here, in Tallgrass Knitting (my Etsy shop) here or on LoveKnitting here.

The Candy Cane Hat released in December of 2019. This hat uses knits, decreases and yarn overs in a simple lace to evoke one of my favorite bits of the Holiday season. This hat is offered in six sizes. Perfect for a quick gift! Lace fully charted and written. Find the Candy Cant Hat on Ravelry here, in Tallgrass Knitting (my Etsy shop) here or on LoveKnitting here.

The Rosalind Hat features simple cables that flow out of the beginning rib and continue through the decreases to the very top of the crown. Released in June 2020. Perfect for a quick gift! Cables charted and written. Named for Rosalind Franklin, the female scientist who helped discover DNA, because the cables evoke the coiled twist of a double helix in a DNA molecule. Find the Rosalind Hat on Ravelry here, in Tallgrass Knitting (my Etsy shop) here or on LoveKnitting here.

Maggie features an openwork panel between the ribbing and stockinette stitch body of the hat. Simple to work with a polished finished look. The ribbing and openwork of Maggie ensure that each size will easily stretch. Maggie originally released in May 2015. Find Maggie on Ravelry here or on LoveKnitting here.

The Botanist Hat features simple cables that flow out of the beginning rib and continue through the decreases to the very top of the crown. Cables evoke the shoots and growth of climbing vines in a garden or forest. The five sizes use the same number of cast on stitches and follow the same directions – the only difference is the gauge of the yarn used and the number of beginning ribbing rows completed! The Botanist Hat released in July of 2019. Find the Botanist Hat on Ravelry here, in Tallgrass Knitting (my Etsy shop) here or on LoveKnitting here.

The Zig Zag Hat uses knits, purls and basic 2-stitch cables to zig and zag. This hat is a fun twist using one of the cables from my Neve Cowl. The five sizes use the same number of cast on stitches and follow the same directions – the only difference is the gauge of the yarn used and the number of beginning ribbing rows completed! This hat released in May of 2019. Find the Zig Zag Hat on Ravelry here or on LoveKnitting here.

The Aurora Hat uses simple knits, purls and basic cables to evoke the lovely glimmers and twists of dawn’s first light in the dark. The three sizes use the same number of cast on stitches and follow the same directions – the only difference is the gauge of the yarn used and the number of beginning ribbing rows completed! Aurora originally published in December 2017. Find the Aurora Hat on Ravelry here, in Tallgrass Knitting (my Etsy shop) here or on LoveKnitting here.

The Snow Day Hat combines all-over seed stitch with earflaps, tassels and a pompom for extra warmth and “style”. Perfect for an elusive snow day or a fun day hanging out with friends. One size fits most. One of the reasons this hat can fit a relatively wide range of head sizes is the shallow length and the extra-large earflaps. Released February 2017. Find the Snow Day Hat on Ravelry here or on LoveKnitting here.

The College Avenue Hat is designed with basic knits and purls. Simple to work with a fun finished feel. The three different sizes follow the same directions – the only difference is the gauge of the yarn used and the number of stitches! Find the College Avenue Hat on Ravelry here or on LoveKnitting here.

I’m really enjoyed diving deep back into these patterns and bringing them up to my 2020 standards. So, I’m excited to share them with you!
