Knitting: May Projects

Here is a look at what I’ve finished over the last month and what I’m working on in May.

FINISHED

Not a whole lot. Online virtual school is coming to an end. And the garden is finally starting to grow after holding almost dormant during our chilly late spring. Other than that I have one finished project, one new release and I dusted off my very unused sewing machine to make a few masks.

I finished my Knitting at the Library Cowl (pattern by Cori Eichelberger started during the Ravelry Gift-A-Long last November) out of Neighborhood Fiber Company Rustic Fingering in the Vermillion colorway. I loved knitting with this yarn – single ply yarn and these colors are a great combination of my favorites. I’m excited for when the libraries open back up so I can sort through the stacks to find books that speak to me in the colors of my stripes for that project photograph. I haven’t sewn in any of the ends yet. But I’m still counting this project as finished.

The Prairie Rose Cowl test knit is finished and the pattern is now live! I’m super pleased to have collaborated with Elevate Fiber Arts on this project in their new prairie-inspired colorway on their luscious Silky Merino yarn base.

And I’ve finished some masks for us to wear out and about. My sewing skills leave a LOT to be desired. But I’ve found a simple pattern that I can manage. I followed the directions from this YouTube video.

ON THE NEEDLES

I do have lots and lots of projects in progress.

The Malachite Shawl pattern test knit just started! I pushed the start date on this back by quite a bit so I’m excited to finally get it started. The Malachite Shawl evokes the natural beauty of the mineral malachite in vibrant color with banded and whorled sections just as found in nature.

And the Malachite Cowl test knit also just started! The cowl uses the same banded and whorled sections as the shawl. Both the Malachite Shawl and Malachite Cowl samples are knit out of Dream in Color Jilly in the colorway Green Lantern on US Size 2 (2.75 mm) needles. I really, really loved working with this yarn and have a sweater design in the early planning stages that I think might work perfectly with this yarn.

I also cast on a top down cabled sweater out of Knit Picks Gloss DK on US Size 6 (4.00 mm) needles in a deep teal color named Kenia.

I cast on another fingering weight top down pullover out of Miss Babs Woodbury (fingering weight merino and silk blend) on US Size 2 (2.75 mm) needles in the color Old Gold.

I’m finally adding to this pile of hats. This will be another hat design in 6 sizes. So I’m just about halfway through the sample hats out of Knit Picks Wool of the Andes. on US Size 7 (4.50 mm) needles.

The lace cowl is coming right along out of Mirasol Nuna in the color Butternut on US Size 5 (3.75 mm) needles.

And finally, these last two projects aren’t quite on the needles yet. But they will be soon so I’m including them too! On the left a fire inspired shawl out of Wichita Woolery 4-ply fingering merino in a beautiful deep red named Cranberry and on the right another top down tee. The tee will also be red – a bright, clear fire engine or new wagon red. The sample above isn’t. I had enough stash leftover in a different color of the same yarn. So I played around with different stitch patterns in this other color as I figure out exactly what I want for the tee. Now I’m wondering if I might need a tee out of this happy blue (named Reef) too.

I’m so glad to have the mental space back for all of these projects! Each and every bit that I achieve towards the new normal feels like such an accomplishment. I hope the same for you. Please be kind to yourself and others as we all move forward. Take care!
