Tutorial – Brianna Cloak Hood Simple Tuck Method

My Brianna Cabled Cloak pattern uses an optional simple tuck method to avoid a pointed hood. The initial instructions can be confusing but the process is really pretty simple.

Here is a quick look at the hood at the completed hood with the normal point at the back after it is seamed together at the center top.

Step 1: Fold the normal point of the hood under and inside of the top hood seam so that about 1.5″ [4 cm] of the hood point is now pressed up against the top of the hood seam.

Step 2: Using the long tail left over from seaming together the hood, duplicate stitch the hood point to the center top seam.

Now you’ve got a small pocket formed at the very back of the hood.

Step 3: Take the top of the pocket and fold it down to from a straight, flat line against the lower fabric of the hood.

Step 4: Mattress stitch this line to the hood making certain it is pulled taut with no wrinkles or puckers.

Here you can see the finished back of the hood after mattress stitching together.

And here is the finished inside of the hood.

Another look at the finished hood as it hangs down the back.
